Our trip to Geneva was uneventful but long, but then on arrival at the Geneva airport we discovered that the bike did not make the connection at Amsterdam. But it worked out ok--they delivered it to the hotel in Geneva just as we were leaving on a one day side trip to Zermatt Switzerland to see the Matterhorn. We drove there through part of France, past Mt. Blanc, highest mountain in Europe. At Tasch we had to park our car and take a tiny van up a small road to Zermatt where they do not allow cars; then we took a cog railway up to our hotel at 10000 feet at a place called Gornergrat which is really just the hotel and an observatory. The views were fantastic and the weather was cool and clear. We hiked around and drank in the scenery. In the morning we were feeling some altitude sickness with headaches but after we got down to Zermatt we were ok. On the way back to Geneva we drove on the Switzerland side of Lake Geneva; lots of freeway but we also made a quick stop at Sion where we looked at some ancient fortifications etc. Then on Friday evening we met up with our bike tour group (Granfondo Tours).
